Each October, members of the Rome Volunteer Fire Department in Proctorville, OH, hold an annual parade in honor of Fire Prevention Month. And in recent years, a young fan, Gavin, has shown his appreciation for the firefighters by dressing in his own firefighting gear and displaying a "thank you" sign as crews march by his grandparents house.
This past Sunday, the tables were turned, and Gavin was rewarded for his annual dedication. In a video posted on the department's Facebook page, firefighters paid a surprise visit to the boy following the parade.
"We've seen your poster, and every year, you're out here doing something special for the fire prevention parade, so we thought we'd come back around to see it," said one of the firefighters before presenting Gavin with a new bicycle.
Along with the bike, Gavin also got a chance to try on actual firefighting gear and go for an apparatus ride-along.
